Der Band ist als Anhang zu dem von Bernd Baselt erarbeiteten dreibändigen Verzeichnis der Werke Georg Friedrich Händels (HWV) konzipiert worden. Er enthält sämtliche im 18. Jahrhundert dem Komponisten zugeschriebenen Kompositionen, die der Forschung zu großen Teilen bisher unbekannt waren. Gefördert von der ‚Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft‘ haben die Autoren die Kompositionen, die in über 400 Handschriften in Europa und in Übersee erhalten sind, nach dem philologischen Prinzip der Echtheitskritik untersucht und beschrieben. Außer einigen kleineren vokalen und instrumentalen Werken Händels war die Entdeckung eines Gloria in excelsis Deo in der Londoner „Royal Academy of Music“ eine der unvorhersehbaren Ereignisse des Forschungsprojektes. Die von Händel während seiner italienischen Reise komponierte, hochvirtuose Komposition wurde bei den Göttinger Händel-Festspielen 2001 erstmals wiederaufgeführt. Eine Sensation in der musikalischen Welt. Das mit verschiedenen Registern versehene, umfassende Werk sollte als Ergänzung zum Verzeichnis der Werke Georg Friedrich Händels in keiner Musikbibliothek fehlen.****************This volume is an appendix to Bernd Baselt’s three-volume Catalogue of George Frederick Handel’s works (HWV). It contains all the compositions attributed to the composer in the 18th century, most of which were previously unknown to researchers. Sponsored by the German Research Foundation, the authors examined and described compositions contained in over 400 manuscripts in Europe and further afield, following the philological principle of authenticity criticism. Apart from a few smaller vocal and instrumental works by Handel, the discovery of a Gloria in excelsis Deo in London’s Royal Academy of Music was one of the unforeseen events of the research project. This highly-accomplished work, composed during Handel’s travels in Italy was first performed at the 2001 Göttingen Handel Festival, and caused a sensation in the musical world. This comprehensive, fully-indexed volume, deserves a place in every library as a supplement to the Verzeichnis der Werke Georg Friedrich Händels.
