YASIIN TOOJLE - A young man from the Horn of Africa attempts a perilous journey by boat in a bid to reach Europe. He dreams of a better life. However, disaster strikes and he is rescued from drowning in the Mediterranean Sea by the crew of a naval frigate. Transferred to the island of Sicily, he makes contact with a mysterious voice; an artificial intelligence. Through cyberspace he is gently introduced to some of the earliest examples of European thought and culture. The young man is provided with a torch capable of illuminating the wisdom of the ages. Yasiin then embarks on a journey that takes him to Rome: the Eternal City. Along the way he meets other migrants, as well as influential Europeans. With the guidance of new friends, Yasiin gains knowledge of the powerful social dynamics at work in the West. Yasiin is presented with the story of the long march of civilization. In the process, he begins to better understand why he chose to leave his homeland in the first instance.
