The book reveals some facts which appear to have been ignored by almost everyone, about the 2004 Lok Sabha elections-one of the biggest upsets in recent times. Despite being a very popular Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee could not become Prime Minister again, and the BJP-led coalition lost. Did all the exit polls really predict the NDA returning to power, or were at least some of them showing the NDA losing? A lot of things which need to be learnt from these elections have been noted. The book points out some other ignored facts like some media channels' links to politicians and their other strategies to target their ideological opponents.An objective and thorough analysis of the 2004 Lok Sabha elections would perhaps act as an eye-opener for some media observers and political analysts about Indian elections. Indian elections are a complex process, and the results are affected by various factors like caste, anti-incumbency, choice of candidates, party factionalism, opposition unity, role of the media etc, not merely the performance of a government. The media played an unnoticed but strong role in this election.A simple reading of the book will reveal a lot of hidden facts, not only about these elections, but even otherwise on the nature of some media channels, and also on other issues like the 2002 Gujarat riots.
