Hashagen relates his experiences in a manner which takes the reader through the environment of a submariner, explaining, describing the humdrum, the fear, the excitement and the seriousness of the trade via detailed examples from his patrols.Hashagen is frequently quite introspective and impassioned regarding his world and experiences. More so than would be expected from a military writer and certainly contributes to his work’s appeal with civilian readers. His work is well regarded for its accuracy and straightforward descriptions.
