It uses clear and modern fonts and formatting, while retaining the original language that made it a masterpiece of English literature and an endless source of inspiration for many of the world’s greatest authors.In 1604 King James I of England convened the Hampton Court Conference and gave the translators instructions to produce a work that would conform to the ecclesiology of the Church of England. The original edition was printed by the King’s printer, Robert Barker and was published in 1611. Over forty scholars working in six committees performed the translations from Hebrew and Aramaic texts for the Old Testament, and from Greek texts for the New Testament. The committees were as follows:First Westminster Company: from Genesis to Second Kings.First Cambridge Company: from First Chronicles to the Song of Solomon.First Oxford Company: from Isaiah to Malachi.Second Oxford Company: the Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, and Revelation.Second Westminster Company: the Epistles.Second Cambridge Company: the Apocrypha (not included in later editions or in this edition).
