It was with The Haunted Inn D ie Puste Kretshme) that the Jewish Art Theatre of New York, under the direction of Mr. Emanuel Reicher, inaugurated its career in the autumn of 1919; byvirtue of the striking production and the remarkable acting of Mr. J. Ben-A mi in the role of I tsik, the drama was soon the talk not only of the Yiddish reviewers, but also of the critics of the English press, who forsook Broadway for Madison A venue and Twenty-S eventh Street and long made the play the subject of enthusiastic comment. It is this play, indeed, that was directly responsible for Mr. Ben Amis rapid transfer to the English-speaking stage, and his appearance in the English version will reveal one of the most original pieces in the Jewish repertory.
