Aus Anlass des 50. Todestages von Erich Maria Remarque im September 2020 beschäftigen sich die Beiträge dieses Bandes im Schwerpunkt mit bislang nahezu unberücksichtigten Aspekten von Leben, Werk und Rezeption des Autors. Nicht nur die argentinische Comic-Version des Romans »Der Weg zurück« erfährt eine detaillierte Analyse, auch die Adaption der Werke Remarques in Comics und Mangas aus China, Japan und Korea werden eingehend untersucht. Remarques aufklärerische Überzeugung wird sowohl am Roman über ein deutsches Konzentrationslager, »Der Funke Leben«, gespiegelt als auch aus seinen didaktischen Erfahrungen als Lehrer hergeleitet und auf sein Gesamtwerk übertragen. Weitere Beiträge beschäftigen sich u.a. mit den literarischen Reaktionen auf den Ausbruch des Zweiten Weltkriegs in der sozialdemokratischen Exil-Zeitung »Neuer Vorwärts« und der Behandlung des Bundeswehreinsatzes in Afghanistan in der deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur. To mark the 50th anniversary of Erich Maria Remarque’s death in September 2020 the contributions of this volume focus on almost unnoticed aspects of the life, work and reception of the author. Both the Argentinian comic version of his novel "Der Weg zurück" is analysed in detail as well as the adaptation of his works in comics and mangas in China, Japan and Korea. Remarque’s enlightening certitude is reflected in both his novel concerning a German Concentration camp "Der Funke Leben" and in his didactic experiences as a teacher and thus transferred on his complete works. Further contributions deal with the reactions on the outbreak of the Second World War in the social-democratic exile paper "Neuer Vorwärts" and the treatment of the Bundeswehr mission in Afghanistan in contemporary German literature.
