The Grand Lodge having been opened in Jform at 3.30 p.m., in theL odge Room of Beaver Lodge No. 83., R. W. Bro. McG loghlon stated that he had been empowered by the M. W. the Grand Master, to perform the ceremony of laying the corner-stone of the church of St. John theE vangelist (E piscopal;, obout to be erected inS trathroy. The Church when completed will be 105 ft. long by 46 in width. The nave will be 80 ft. which with an addition of 25 ft. for chancel, gallery and organ loft, make as stated, 105 ft. entire length. There will be a basement story under the nave forS abbath School purposes, capable of accommodating 300 scholars. The auditory when completed will seat 500 people. The site is the same as that of the old church, namely, west side Head Street. A graceful spire will rise from the front, and the style and proportions of the whole will be in complete harmony. At present only a section is being erected, including the chancel, gallery and organ loft, and about 40 feet of the nave, which will be joined on the old church, so that it can be utilized for a time in connection with the new section. The portion now being erected will cost about $4,000, and when the whole is completed the cost will be about $12,000. A procession was formed in accordance with the regulation as laid down in the book of Constitution, and preceded by theB and of the 26th Battalion, proceeded to the site of the Church, when the Acting Grand Master delivered the following address to the large assemblage of persons who were present to witness the ceremony :M en and brethren here assembled be it known unto you, that we be lawful Masons, true and faithful to the laws of our country, an-l established of old with peace and honor in m(Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)
