Bis in die 60er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts war die Stadt am Golf ein Sehnsuchtsort, und auch heute noch blühen die Zitronen in Unteritalien. Dieser Band mit Beiträgen aus der Archäologie, der Geschichts-, Kunst-, Musik-, Film- und Literaturwissenschaft zeigt aber, dass Neapel auch stets ein Hort der Unruhe, des Zwielichtigen, wenn nicht des Anrüchigen war und ist. As a »porous city« (Walter Benjamin) Naples stands for a rich ancient tradition, for a highly developed opera culture and for an outstanding baroque art but also for a long period of Spanish rule, for bloody rebellions and last but not least for global crime.
