Today the Monterey Bay region is home to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Reserve, the majestic Monterey Bay Aquarium, California's state parks' "crown jewel" Point Lobos, and the breathtaking Big Sur coast.
