The usual defects and weaknesses that horseflesh is heir to are carefully enumerated in this little book, and the reader is clearly taught where to look for them and how to detect them. In addition to this negative protection, the intending purchaser is shown what points he should particularly look for, according to the use to which the horse is to be put; and general directions are given for his guidance in deciding whether to buy or reject an animal that may appear to be a suitable one for his purposes. Practical hints and instruction on the proper management of the horse, in order to keep him in good health and working condition, complete a work which should prove of great assistance to the amateur horse -owner in the difficulties with which he has to contend.
