Are there any issues that are more inflammatory in American politics and public life than gun rights and abortion? These two issues have been raging in public debate and have animated and divided the citizens of this great country for the last half century. It is time for us to insist that the politicians we vote for, regardless of party affiliation, be dedicated to serve all the people, be willing to communicate civilly and respectfully with members of the opposing party, and be willing to compromise to achieve the common good and the collective will of all the people while respecting the inalienable rights of minorities. If, together, we are going to accomplish the monumental tasks which this book is about, resolution of the abortion and gun rights issues in America, we will have to do so in spite of the kicking and screaming of the career politicians who are determined to perpetually divide us for their political interest.
