In erik Hagoorts numerous art based writings, encounter is the subject and form. With his work, Hagoort investigates the conditions of encountering in art. It consists of conditioned improvisations and gatherings in which he, together with others, explores the starting points on what an encounter is and how it works in art: reciprocal and asymmetrical. His critical focus arose from his interest in ethical motifs in social art practices. This new book, which in part draws from Hagoorts doctoral art research, provides a picture of the thinking aloud that went on during ongoing conversations and gatherings initiated by Hagoort in recent years. The book also contains a series of essays in which he builds on ideas about closeness that originate from philosophers Ilse Bulhof, emmanuel Levinas, and Cornelis verhoeven, among others. I Dont Know What You Are Going to Say contains disarming lines of thought that prompt further thinking on aspects of encounter: uninhibitedness, embarrass- ment, astonishment, and responsibility.
