TtON. In the compilation of this catalogue, I have with advantage ut Hized the notes collected by ray predecessor, Mr, F. D, O. Obreen, and rhe additions made to them Ly Mr, C, G. t Hooft, Sab-D irector of the National Museum of pictures from i6 Febr, 1897 tot March 1898- 1have aso largely drawn from the catalogue compiled In 1885 by Mr. Brediu Sta most useful work which, in 1897 had already reached its fifth edition. Before proceeding, I wish to express my indebtedness to those persons who have assisted me in my laskj in the first place to IM r. W. J. Steenhoff, sub-D irector of the State Museum, for his intelligent collaboraiton, and to Mr. J, Ph, vander Kellen, who, besides supplying me with other valuable information, has pointed out to me Jamong the 900 masters represented in the Museum, those who were at the same time Etchers and Engravers, I particularly wish to acknowledge my obligation to MrE, W.
