Architettura E Antichita Napoli Dal XV Al XVIII Secolo: Le Colonne del Tempio Dei Dioscuri E La Chiesa Di San Paolo Maggiore (L'Ermarte)
English summary: This volume investigates the relationship between the temple of the Dioscuri (1st-2nd century AD) and the church San Paolo Maggiore, built on the ruins of the temple in the Middle Ages and rebuilt by the Theatine order during the second half of the sixteenth century. The new church shared and mirrored the historical temple facade in its marble porch, thus establishing a close relationship between architecture and history, reflecting the problematic relationship between Christianity and antiquity. Italian description: Il volume indaga la relazione fra il tempio dei Dioscuri (I-II sec. d.C.) - l'edificio antico piu importante di Napoli, ammirato e studiato dagli umanisti locali e da antiquari forestieri anche dopo il suo parziale crollo nel 1688 - e la chiesa di San Paolo Maggiore, sorta sulle rovine del tempio in epoca medievale e ricostruita dai chierici regolari teatini a partire dal secondo Cinquecento. La nuova chiesa fa propria l'aura storica del tempio esibendone in facciata il pronao marmoreo: si instaura cosi una stretta corrispondenza tra architettura e storia, nel quadro del problematico rapporto del cristianesimo con l'antichita, di cui i teatini si fanno consapevoli interpreti. La testimonianza degli studiosi dell'antico fra Quattro e Settecento e le cospicue fonti d'archivio che documentano i cantieri di ricostruzione della chiesa consentono di restituire le vicende esemplari di questo eccezionale monumento tra umanesimo e liturgia.
