BC was a time in history when mythology ruled people’s daily lives and all manner of gods, goddesses, heroes, and royalty, along with a multitude of creatures and animals, were being worshiped. All of them were so revered that with the invention of coinage around 600 BC by the Lydians, a kingdom tied to ancient Greece, the coins directly reflected this firm belief system. Mints produced coinage that displayed artistic stampings of specific images and meaningful symbolisms important to a region. This new medium promoted the Greek-style of art now found on coins that helped to play a major role in influencing the ancient world, and spreading art around their world.The Ancient Greek Coin Art series preserves Greek art style in history by focusing on showcasing a visual plethora of some of the world’s rarest surviving BC examples, now only found in museums and private collections around the world.
