Le présent ouvrage s'inscrit dans la continuité de Approche par la contextualisation, paru dans la même série et qui montrait que les " communications " prennent sens pour les acteurs lorsqu'ils les replacent dans un " contexte pertinent pour eux ". Il démontre que l'interprétation scientifique est aussi l'uvre d'une " contextualisation " qui s'opère par et à travers des contextes " scientifiquement construits " pour les besoins des recherches. Les contextes construits peuvent être divers. Ils dépendent de pré-requis scientifiques que l'on peut expliciter. Ils construisent des " reflets " de la " réalité " présentant la caractéristique d'être " utiles " pour résoudre les problèmes posés au départ. L'ouvrage présente sept méthodes ayant déjà fait leurs preuves et donne des indications pour construire des méthodes adaptées à divers problèmes de recherche.
