This is the third in a series of 10 volumes that depict the U.S. Army's U.S. installations from World War II. This includes Army Ground Forces, Army Air Forces, Army Service Forces, and POW camps. No such undertaking has been previously documented and represents a comprehensive approach to these installations and the units that served at them. Volume 7 represents the Seventh Service Command and includes the facilities in the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. To compile this record, the researchers traveled to many of the installations - some still existed and could be accessed while others still existed and could not be entered due to heightened national security concerns. On the other hand, many facilities no longer existed. . . especially in the area of the former Army Air Fields. Many have been converted to regional and local fields for the traveling public while a fair number have been returned to farm land or are concrete edifices within the farmland. The records from the Office of the Adjutant General - The Station List of the Army of the United States - was used to document which individual units were at each of the installations, and when. Previous publications have included the Fifth Service Command (IN, KY, OH, WV) and the Sixth Service Command (IL, MI, WI).
