D L Schaffer epub Converting Hard Chine Sailboats to True Round: Bezier Chine Design

The purpose of this writing is to illustrate the practicality of changing a Double Hard Chine design to a true round design for purely architectural pleasing motivations. To this end, I will be converting a double chined steel hull designed by myself many years ago into a true round version of itself. To do the conversion I will be using 'Bezier Chine Design and Construction'. A construction method developed by myself that enables builder to fabricate True Round metal hulls as easily as a Hard Chine hull. A full understanding of the process can be found in my book 'True Round Metal Boat Building - Bezier Chine Design'. In this book however, I will touch on the concept and configurations of a Bezier Chine Design, describe the drawings needed to make the conversion, make the conversion, and describe and compare all the consequences of the conversion itself. Finally, I will compare and comment on all aspects of the conversion by way of Visual characteristics, Hydrostatics, Stability, Resistance, and Speed predictions. The process is so seamless that the builder will continue to use their original drawings to construct every aspect of the design, except the newly converted true round section between the freeboard and bottom of the hull. This newly created section of the hull will be fully documented by way of construction drawings and full size pattern for the transverse framing, longitudinal framing, and shell plating. In the end, the transition from Hard Chine to True Round is no more than an addendum or supplement to the original drawings.
