Of course, originally the primary usage for fine crystal was investment, its workmanship, and craftsmanship. Crystal contains minerals (typically some lead and zinc) which strengthens it and although it is thinner than glass, it is always heavier. Later fine crystal became decorative and a symbol of wealth for the rich and famous. The purpose? Drinking fine aged wine or liquor out of pure creative skill of artistry. So now you’ve the china, good food and the cigar, you’ve the silver and good tea, you’ve the linens and an excellent majestic bed…now, you need to get the fine crystal.
